Sushil Kumar arrested: Wrestler ran out of money, wanted video of Sagar Rana getting beaten up to go viral
Wrestler Sushil Kumar has been produced at the Rohini Court after being arrested by the Delhi Police on Sunday morning. The Special Investigating Team (SIT), which nabbed the absconding wrestler, has been allowed to interrogate Sushil for 30 minutes inside the courtroom.
Sushil and his associate Ajay Kumar had been on the run since being named in the murder case of fellow wrestler Sagar Rana earlier this month. Sagar died, while two of his friends Sonu and Amit Kumar got injured after they were allegedly assaulted by Sushil and other wrestlers on the night of May 4 in Delhi’s Chhatrasal Stadium.
Sushil and Ajay Kumar were apprehended by the cops while they were on their way to collect money from somebody in the city’s Mundka area on May 23. Sushil has admitted to being on the spot when the brawl took place in the parking area of the stadium.
Sushil even told a guy named Prince to make a video of the incident and wanted it to go viral in his community so that nobody else dares to offend the two-time Olympic medalist ever again. Forensic test results have established the presence of Sushil at the incident.
Sushil and Ajay fled the scene of crime after Sagar died which forced the Delhi Police to issue a lookout notice for the pair. There was a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000 for anyone providing information about Sushil and Ajay, respectively.
Sushil and Ajay avoided using mobile phones so that their location cannot be tracked by the investigators while they were on the run. They hid in places like Haridwar, Meerut, Bahadurgarh, Chandigarh and Bhatinda to evade arrest.
Sushil Kumar is India’s most-decorated wrestler with 2 Olympic medals, 3 Commonwealth Games gold medals, 1 world championship gold, 1 bronze in the Asian Games and 4 Asian Championship medals.
