Finance Minister requests taxmen to be benevolent with tax payers

The officials of Indian Revenue Services (IRS), popularly known as taxmen have been asked by our Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee to be benevolent while dealing with the tax payers and to treat them with due respect in order to have increase in tax collections which form an important part of government revenues.


The target audience addressed here comprised mainly the 63rd batch of the IRS. It must be noted, that the approach of treating taxpayers as not rivals but as supporters of the economy has been proved beneficial and has resulted in a noteworthy increase in tax collections throughout the past decade. The trainee officials are being asked to follow the same approach from the very beginning.


The Finance Minister also proclaimed that the collections from direct taxes has been increased by almost ten times in the past 10 years highlighting the fact that its share in total tax collection is now more than 55 per cent. He further notified that this increase in tax optimism and enthusiasm, along with the tax collection efforts of the government revenues help to a great extent in waving off the loans quantifying to Rs. 71,000.00 crores to the farmers by the government.
